This Juneteenth poster was a personal project created to honor and celebrate the Juneteenth holiday. Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, is a U.S. holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It marks the day—June 19, 1865. Juneteenth symbolizes freedom and is celebrated with various activities, including community gatherings, parades, music, historical reenactments, and educational events.
For this poster, I incorporated the traditional Juneteenth colors of red, green, and yellow, with red as the focal color. The raised fist symbolizes strength, triumph, and resilience during the era of slavery. The inclusion of the year “1865” serves as a poignant reminder of the historic abolition of slavery in the United States.
For the next poster, I retained the iconic raised fist, now accompanied by broken chains to symbolize the liberation from slavery. The word “resilience” in the background pays homage to the enduring strength and perseverance of ancestors who overcame the struggles of slavery. At the bottom, I included silhouettes of young African Americans, representing the bright future and legacy of those who endured and survived this historic period.
